Cancer staging defines the development of cancer based on the extent of the primary tumor and whether or not cancer has spread in the body. Staging is important for selecting the appropriate treatment, and identifying clinical trials that may be suitable for a specific patient.
Current clinical diagnosis can only detect a tumor after two-thirds or more of its development is over (right figure). That means so far techniques for staging can only deal with the end stages of cancer. Theramix aims to develop imaging approaches to monitor the growth of a tumor in a much broader range including its very early stages. We identify and image specific targets associated with different stages of cancer. Another benefit of our staging approaches is that the imaging targets for staging will also be the drug targets to which a specified treatment could be directly applied.
